The city is located in the intersection of five natural geographical regions: the hills of the Slovenske Gorice, the mountain course Kozjak, the Drava valley, the Pohorje mountains and the Drava level.
One of the most important buildings is the 1515 in the Renaissance style edified city hall or Rotovz, on whose balcony the emblem of the city hangs. Infront of the city hall a plague column stands in memory of the harm caused by the plague of 1680-1681.
